The author started out as a child with diabetes well before the insulin and monitors we now have available were around. His first degree is in engineering, later became a medical doctor with a practice specializing in patients with diabetes. To help himself he learned how to use food to control his blood sugar. This is the best book I've found to explain all facets of this disease. There is also an excellent website (http://www.diabetes-book.com/) that greatly expands upon the information in the book along with a discussion forum and much more. Every person ever diagnosed with diabetes - or people who wish to avoid developing diabetes! - should read this book.
