Show and Tell for Grown-ups
In elementary school, Show and Tell day was the best! We got to bring our favorite things to school, and tell the whole class what was so special about our treaasures. Why should kids have all the fun? Show and Tell For Grown-ups is sweeping the nation, and it’s coming to AADL! Bring a treasure – an old photo or letter, a family heirloom, a souvenir, something you made – and tell us the story behind it. We’ll even create a short video of you telling your item’s story and share it on our website. Attendees are also welcome to listen and enjoy others’ stories. Stories will begin at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, May 5 at the Malletts Creek Branch.
Finding Vivian Maier
In the Oscar-nominated documentary Finding Vivian Maier, John Maloof and Charlie Siskel uncover the life a mysterious career nanny who pursued photography in her spare time. Her secret cache of over 100,000 photographs, which surfaced in an auctioned-off storage locker, rocked the art world and cemented the relatively unknown artist as one of the century’s best street photographers. AADL will screen the film, which tells the story of both the photographer and the photographs on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 pm in the Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room.
Special Children's Book Week Event
To celebrate Children’s Book Week, local author Cindy Shaw will discuss writing and self-publishing her delightful new book, Mr. Red’s Balloon. This digitally illustrated book was written, designed, illustrated, and published by Cindy, who will join us at the Downtown Library on Thursday, May 7 at 7 pm. Inspired by a painting, Mr. Red’s Balloon is the story of a cheerful blob man who goes through town encouraging his friends. The program will be followed by a book signing and books will be for sale.
