I enjoy the entire Percy Jackson series not only because it is fast-paced and full of twists and turns but because it is a great place to start reading about mythology. When I started reading "The Lightning Thief" I decided to check out a book on Greek mythology so that I could get more background on the characters. Also, check out www.theoi. com for an awesome site that covers everything about Greek mythology. This site includes the primary sources (where the stories first came from) for all of the myths, Gods, and creatures!

This off-shoot series not only develops the character, Jack of the Fables, but it also sheds a lot of light on the entire Fables universe. It is practically a must read for all fans of the "Fables" series.

And don't worry if you didn't like Jack in the original series. I certainly didn't like him at first but as I started reading "Jack of Fables" I found there was a lot to like about Jack. Sure, he is still an arrogant womanizer in the worst way, but he is loyal to his friends and not afraid of anyone.
