I really liked this book because of the obvious benefit of having pictures of your ingredients. What made it even better was the fact that my kids really liked to look at it also and anything that gets them involved in cooking is great. Plus now they can identify stuff at the store or market without having to rely on the signs, which is something that I cannot say about myself. Great book and now on our list of books to buy.
The best thing about the test kitchen books is that they always tell you how they found out what works best, this helps to guide you when you try to make changes to recipes you get from their books. They are basically telling you what not to try because they already did it and it didn't work. This is great for those of us that like to make a recipe exactly how the book shows, ONCE, then when we like to change it up a bit the next time we know where not to go with things. I love this aspect of the test kitchen series as it keeps the number of duds I produce to a minimum.
I had to write a review for this book because every recipe I have made from it has been wonderful. Yes, with any cookbook you can adjust the seasonings and make it better or worse based on your tastes, but I found with this book most of the time all the quantities were spot on. The recipes I have used the most are the grain based ones that use lentils and what not. Great stuff, will have to check it out again as I had to return it before I could try or write down all the recipes I wanted to try.
this book is great for people that have a hard time visualizing what most repair books mean when they talk about parts of your house. I actually understood what they meant about each area of the house and how I could fix it or improve it. This is great for those of us that might not know the name of each part of our house or exactly what the trade names are for different tools and resources. I almost wanted to buy this one, but I will just check it out each time I need to use it.
My kids love all the books in this series. I think we have checked out one of them like three times. For some reasons the outrageous story is just too funny for them, they are addicted to it. They even read it too each other and that, to me, means great books.
