I liked the illustrations but did not care for the story.
My 4 year old and I found the stories repetitious and not very interesting.
I was not ready for the ending. Don't open the box, Brad!!
I love a good mystery book and having worked in the NYC OCME, this book was right up my alley. I read the book trying to guess who some of the characters were based on. The story centers around a former medical examiner that resigned as a result of PTSD from 9/11. He becomes involved with an investigation into a murdered coed that he soon discovers is the work of a serial killer. Not surprisingly, in the final chapter, it's up to him, without backup from the NYPD, to stop the killer before he kills his next victim. Dr. Hayes is a good writer but towards the end, I was starting to skip the details in order to find out what happens to the victim. Overall, the book was a very easy and enjoyable read.
I thought my son would like this book after we had seen the Titanic exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum. And, he was interested. However, I found myself skipping over details when the ship was sinking into the water. I found the last page, which is a short biography of Ruth Becker, fascinating. It is not surprising that she suppressed the memories of the horrific experience until she was much older.
