Truly one of my fav films - and excellent puzzle that you will want to revisit again and again.....
This is a classic film, based on the award-winning play. Olivia de Havilland plays the unloved woman desperate for a young man to take her away from her privileged life - she won an Oscar for her role.
Based on the Henry James novel 'Washington Square' this is an excellent play. Father-daughter relations, failed engagements, an unloved young women, and a money hungry young man all combine for an American classic play.
I did not like this film as much as the play - I found it quite dark and plodding with much of the humor taken out.
This is an excellent film that was nominated for Oscars. Great performances by Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton and Leonardo DiCaprio - and based on an excellent play.
