The Whole Foods chefs will feature locally grown produce from all our favorite FM vendors. Look for samples and recipes at this free event.

Pick a Parks & Rec Class Online

Beginning August 20th, you can Register Online for Ann Arbor Parks & Rec classes, camps, and programs. TreeTown will be saving trees and money by printing fewer brochures (Fall/Winter 2007-2008 brochures will no longer be mailed to homes) so look for the full-color online version. While you’re on the P&R site be sure to check out the Canoe Liveries ~ Fall is the prettiest time for paddling the Huron.

There's something for everyone at the Buhr Park Summer Splash Day, Saturday, August 18th, 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. You don't have to register in advance, just grab your swimmies and head to the pool.

It's Debatable ~ Tonight

Tune in to CTN Channel 19 tonight, July 23rd, for the live broadcast of the City Council candidate debates sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Ann Arbor Area. Candidates for Ward One begin debating at 7:00 p.m., Ward Three at 8:00 p.m. and Ward Five at 9:00 p.m. The debates will be rebroadcast up until the August 7th election.

County 4H Fair

It’s that time of year again. 4H at the Washtenaw County Fair grounds on Ann Arbor – Saline road at Pleasant Lake Road just south of town.

It starts Sunday July 22nd through Friday, July 27th. It’s all free to spectators. Come out and enjoy the many judging and showmanship events including cows, pigs, chickens, cats, dogs, horses, llamas and more. Click here to get the full schedule for the week.

You don’t need to have kids involved in 4H to enjoy the many great dramas that occur there throughout the week. Come out and have a good time.

Sancho's Scene: Community Events that Wander off the Path

Saturday, July 7 is going to be a big day. According to theknot.com, more than twice the usual number of “knottie” weddings (12,000 on a typical July Saturday) are scheduled to take place. And, while couples around the world are snagging a pretty cool anniversary date, an organization called Live Earth plans to hold concerts on seven continents in an effort to combat the global climate crisis. A freshly minted Ann Arbor organization, Aero Global Warming is hosting an official Friend of Live Earth event at Palmer Field this 07/07/07. Check it out—bands will be playing from 1-9, and the event features a plasma screen display of the other concerts taking place all over the world.

City of Ann Arbor residents have until 5 p.m. Monday, July 9th to register to vote in the August 7th City Primary. You can register to vote at City Hall or any Secretary of State office. Save even more time by printing off a Voter Registration Form beforehand. Not sure if you're registered? Check your status at Michigan Votes. If you need to vote via Absentee Ballot, call the City Clerk's office at (734) 994-2725.

Timely Tax Tip: Pay Online

Want to save time, gas and stamps? Then use the City of Ann Arbor's Online Tax Payment site to pay your 2007 Summer property tax. Beginning July 1 through July 31, taxpayers with a savings or checking account (sorry no credit or debit cards) can pay via a secure e-check system. On-line Assessment and Property Tax Data is also available on the City's web site.
