Hunting season is afoot in Michigan. The DNR has guides for all types of hunting as well as licensing information. The Deer Hunting Prospects brochure will help you decide where and when to get out in the woods. Check out the state parks and recreation areas map to find the perfect camp site.

Beginning August 20th, you can Register Online for Ann Arbor Parks & Rec classes, camps, and programs. TreeTown will be saving trees and money by printing fewer brochures (Fall/Winter 2007-2008 brochures will no longer be mailed to homes) so look for the full-color online version. While you’re on the P&R site be sure to check out the Canoe Liveries ~ Fall is the prettiest time for paddling the Huron.

When do baseball and knitting come together?

On September 9th! Do you embroider, knit, crochet, cross-stitch or needlepoint? Do you like baseball or root on the Tigers? If so, this is the event for you! Stitch n' Pitch is an event that combines the stitch arts and baseball. Stitch n' Pitch events are happening across the country and one is coming to Comerica Park on Sunday September 9th. You can sit in the stands, knit a cool scarf alongside other stitch artists and enjoy the baseball game! Anyone is welcome, so don't worry if you're a novice. Tickets are available at various stores around the Detroit area. Looking for a new project or want to hone your skills? Why not try these books out before the game: Quick knits, cool projects, Sublime Stitching, Splendid samplers to cross-stitch. Play ball!

Outdoor Types- New magazine titles at the Library

Earlier this year the Library started getting several new magazine titles that should appeal to outdoor enthusiast types. American Iron a motorcycle magazine is carried at the Downtown branch. We also now get Grays Sporting Journal at the Downtown branch and Michigan Sportsman at the Downtown, Malletts & Pittsfield branch libraries.

Stop by the Pittsfield Branch between 2 PM and 3 PM with your cups on Monday, April 9th and get a little practice in, working on your best time. We’ve got speed stacks to borrow if you don’t have your own or want to see what cup stacking is like.

We’ll run through some practice drills and for those that feel competitive, there will be a mini tournament with prizes for the top three winners in the light or heavy brackets. Come and have fun and relax during your spring break!

Cross-country ski by lantern light at Hartwick Pines State Park on Saturday Feb. 10th and Saturday Feb. 24th, 6 to 9 p.m. It’s free and you can call 989-348-2537 for up-to-the-minute ski conditions. Closer to home, the Hudson Mills Metropark’s 3.5-mile paved hike/bike trail is cleared all winter for walking, jogging and cycling. Something even warmer in mind? Walk, swim, dribble and dance at the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center on Washtenaw Ave.

New Art and Sports Books Downtown

AADL has an outstanding collection of new Art and Sports books. To highlight this collection they are now moved to the 1st floor next to the DVDs. The Art books feature beautiful Art photographs and illustrations. The Sports books are the most current in print to help your game and to read of contempory and historical sports heros.
