Of course it will, and there's no better evidence for this assertion than the upcoming GT Game & Plan Meetup and Super Smash Brothers Regulation Throwdown, Tuesday 2/26 starting at 3 PM at the Malletts Creek Branch. We'll start with a healthy dash of open play to shake out the melee cobwebs before getting into the big questions about the 2008 GT Season. Then, from 6 - 8:30, we'll have a Super Smash Bros. Melee Regulation throwdown for grades 6 and up. Don't miss these events; with the age of Melee drawing to a close, there's a lot to talk about for next season, and perhaps a parting farewell to the game that's enthralled us all for so long. See you tuesday!

Some of the things we need to talk about include which games we should use for next season's SmashKart series; go with the Wii versions, or stick with gamecube? Or some of each? Also, do we need changes to the clan system or scoring? Pools worked out pretty well this past season; are there things about the tournament formats that need tweaking? This is your chance to make your voice heard and influence the course of the AADL-GT for the better. Also, I've got some exciting news to cover about the future of the GT... so don't miss it! Speaking of the facebook group of long ago. I edited the recent news:

"Well, since we were just reminded of this old group, I might as well update the news again.
So it's time for the new season! This upcoming Tuesday at 3PM will be your chance to make an influence to the next set of AADL-GT events. I expect many players to be there for at least the Regulation throwdown that will be following at 6:30. I hope to see many of you. Bring ideas of what we could implement into the next tournament. Bring some changes. Or simply bring a vote. Your presence will simply be of help because it shows us who is really willing to make a change in their library.
Remember, Eli is working hard to spread the idea of library gaming. We are his example at how much of a success this campaign really is. The more teenagers who show up will help in his example with how other libraries should follow suit of this new trend.

OK, to answer some questions; there will be open play from 3-6 PM. Those who don't want to talk about next season don't have to. We'll probably start the meeting around 4:30. The tournament will be only be double elimination if time allows, but it will be no-items and neutral stages, all that crap. I have managed to come up with $30, $20 and $10 giftcards to target for prizes.

There will also be a reporter there from the NY Times, who is doing a story about gaming in the library. Give her some good quotes, and you might get your name in the Times! Hope to see you all there!

This is exactly why I say we should have as many people come to these events as possible. We get this kind of attention.

in fact, no one is good at brawl. NO ONE. it hasn't even come out in the US. everything hasn't been "felt out" and discovered. metagames haven't been formed yet. no one.

also, brawl is not a reset for the one millionth time. tech skill is dumbed down to make it a bit more.... "accessible"... but spacing and the often misunderstood concept of "mindgames" is still basically the same across the board. people who were good at melee will have the bigger advantage against people not as good as they were in melee. but they're still bad.

hopefully next season i'll be in a good clan, especially if i improve my tactics over the summer. i was lucky when i got 4th in kart in the first tournament, but next year it will be by intension (i hope)! I might even be able to do Rock Band next season as well, but unfortunately i need to learn the lyrics to most of the songs (boo hiss). I still love the Blitzkreig Bop.
anyway, everyone should be excited about brawl's release (tell me immediately if i'm wrong) i'm just worried that 1) daylight savings time will screw things up, and 2) if they hold back the date AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIN to debug the game or whatever. i haven't written any text for a few days, so... o_- i think that there's three days and about 2 hours left. joy.

Yeah the tournys at gamestop are gonna suck the one at get your game on will be 10x better. and Ive been waiting for brawl for a while but im not desperate enough to get it at 12 am, especially at gamestop (nubfest). The gamestop tourney rules are only starting characters, random characters, random stages, 1 minute round time. While get your game on has every character a huge tv every stage and u can pick wat stage and 3 stock btw. Nice accurate count down time btw john, only 1 day 8 hours and 40 minutes left till brawl.

I haven't played as Link yet. I hear you can use a "dark" Link instead of a black tunic. *sigh* I get the feeling every Link player will be using that costume color. I'm sticking with Red Link, as I always have. Though I really want to master ROB. I want to bulk up my skill with him like in the old days when he could pick up a can of soda for me.

all I need is jigglypuff but im lacking the desire to get him. Does anyone else think brawl was a disapointment, I mean remember in melee how you would play all day and Maybe unlock one character. subspace emissary is such a PAIN. especially the maze..dear god...the maze..soo many doors..the horror..also 1st time facing the last boss I got whooped. 2nd and third time too. lol.

I'm just a guy that used to drive out to Ann Arbor to participate in all-ages Mario Kart tournaments. I was never super good at Melee, so I only came out for one all-ages Melee tournament. I find that I'm somewhat better at Brawl though, probably because they improved Yoshi a little bit. I also won the first Retro Octathalon

Additionally I write the gaming version of the Take 5 column for the Lansing Noise.

Yeah, the last level of SSE took waaaaaay too long. But, I got it done, and I almost have everyone unlocked. Just need to get Jiggs and Wolf and then I've got all the characters.
