This past weekend, the Downtown Library played host to the most intense event in town: the 2007 AADL-GT Super Smash Double Dash Grand Championship and Festival of N00bs! With some truly fierce competitors lined up to play, a ferocious afternoon of multiplayer mayhem was upon us, and the results, while disappointing to some, did not disappoint spectators, as the competition reached a fever pitch in the final round, which featured two members from each of this season's two super clans: limabean and lain. of Clan US, and D-Rex and Johninabox of the Brothers of Maplewood squaring off on the most unpredictable track in Kartdom, the infamous Baby Park. Read on to see what happened, and for full details of the AADL-GT Awards Banquet and Clan Cup, coming this Friday, 12/21 at 6 PM at the Downtown Library!

Prior to the finals, 27 N00bs fought their way towards 8 spots in the Grand Championships, with Foxy Grandpa siezing the top spot and 2006 Grand Champion FRIEDjellyWALNUT taking second, while aikem, Freeze, Mojo, Chris R, AaronS and IGX rounding out the wildcard spots. From 52 Grand Championship challengers, 4 of the 8 wildcards failed to make the cut to 32, along with Smash Master Pwnerer who had some bad luck and dropped out. The cut down to 8 was particularly brutal, claiming both *KZ* Royster and Omega, as well as FRIEDjellyWALNUT and the always-impressive Dale W, and forcing a fraternal tiebreaker between TurtlePerson2 and Bad driver  from which older brother, 2004 Grand Champion and aging-out TurtlePerson2 emerged victorious, only to fail to advance to the final round.

When the dust cleared, season 1 3rd place winner D-Rex emerged victorious, snapping up the Wii, while limabean finished an amazing season by taking second prize (an iPod Nano) and moving to the top of the season's leaderboard. Johninabox then beat his rap by taking third prize (a Nintendo DS) after taking lousy 4th place prizes in both 2004 and 2006; while Smash Master lain. fought his way through Kart rounds to take 4th place (an iPod shuffle).

It was another successful season, with intense rivalries old and new, marked by the utter dominance of two clans and some truly amazing matches at every turn. Now, with most of the competition behind us, there's only one score left to settle: the end of 2007's remarkable clan season, and the final showdown between Clan Us and the Brothers of Maplewood, among other contenders. The GT Awards will start with the Clan Cup at 6 PM on 12/21, featuring some truly amazing suprise games and 6 trophies and $50 games awaiting the winning clan.

After the Clan Cup, we will have Jimmy John's for dinner, and then a few Grudge Matches; we'll then finish up with the Awarding of 2007 Achievement Medals and our first-ever AADL-GT Hall Of Fame inductions. improved player? hard to say. i improved a lot at smash, and i did fair at kart this season, so take that for what it's worth. shin improved much at kart though. so yeah.

also i checked the final 8 points standings, and that time riley killed himself, that gave me a total of 300 points overall. 10 more over turtleperson2.

omega-sportsmanship should go to that one kid who allowwed me to to the the simi finals even though i lost to him.(sd) he didn't care about the money he just wanted to be fair.

I now remember that master AJ and pyromaniac are rookies that made impacts, but notra is still my #1 for rookie of the year

How bout Dale for MVP too Dale as of right now is the highest rated ACTIVE kart player and his smash skill are very good. He also could be up there for sportsman ship

From Previouus seasons I'd say John who looking at the ratings was projected to finish 5th in our clan, but was #1 in our clan and pretty highly ranked

Lain has gotten better throughout this season and from previous seasons as well

Also heartbreaking loss award since i really dont remember many matches I'd go with TP@ getting 5th at the grands this season by 10 points

I'd like to nominate D-Rex for MVP, while there might be players with a better score than him (although he's ranked the highest of anyone), he's the most valuable player. Without him, the BoM would not have been nearly as successful. As an example, he and I won 1st and 3rd in Single Kart in round 4 because he played well as a teammate. If he hadn't held the blue shell, then I wouldn't have been guaranteed first. He finished in 3rd, despite a one item handicap because he's skilled enough to do that.

I think that when looking for an MVP you have to think of who they are valuable to, because if they are valuable to no one, but themselves then they really aren't an MVP.

The reason i say that is because to gain GOOD MINDGAMES you have obtain a GOOD amount of competive play experience and looking at us the only touri we've been to is........ well, the only one i've went to was when cisco had a touri while back (lain= peach). But the only reason were good at tech is because thats basically all u can practice when everybody in your area are basically noobs(BoM). so yeah its no biggy... well with me atleast.

yeah actually i've noticed mindgames don't come directly from experience but rather having to play people with better tech skill.

if it weren't for mindgames i would lose nearly all my matches. it's pretty obvious that i miss lots of l-cancels, do attacks that i didn't mean to do, etc.

you guys coped with loss by raising tech skill against mindgames and i had to raise mindgames to deal with tech skill. i've never had particularly good tech skill and DI is more of a mindgame (in that you know what you're going to get hit by and when) than a tech skill thing but (wall/ledge) teching is tech skill.

anyways mindgames and tech skill are both important, the emphasis on mindgames comes from the fact that at extremely high levels of play nearly everyone has flawless tech skill. also mindgames are much harder to acquire than tech skill.

as for you guys beating me yeah it happens but you gotta remember i sandbag somewhere around 99% of the time. pretty much unless there's something to lose on it i barely try. i remember being in a bad mood at Grands and trying in a match and i think i fourstocked shin.

I realized while watching the replay of the GC yesterday that "Leinad" is just "Daniel" backwards. Huh. I always figured it some some obscure fantasy character or something. That only took, what, 3 years for the cluestick to hit me?

uhhmmmmmm i dunno, i'd advise you take cisco. he is still the best smasher around. and no, when brawl comes it won't "all reset". mindgames can still be applied to brawl. just the tech will be different.

omega-alright i'll put it like this, i don't think that anyone at aadl is better then me at smash. Im not looking down at anyone but i see no one above me. Whether or not you sandbag or not a lost is a lost. you can't change that.I Know i've only been to one tourni before but, if i had more experience there is no telling how good i could be. Anyways you won't sandbag in a mm so we'll have to wait for that. The sad thing about this whole sitution is that you go all around the world and still suck up to cisco. You should be the BEST but, you are not.

Through my experience in gaming tournaments, I've noticed that the most popular games stick the longest. As you all have noticed, Mario Kart was our first game, then came Super Smash Bros Melee. Those two stuck for four whole seasons. Now there is a possibility for Super Smash Bros Brawl to take a spot. Due to the popularity of Melee, Brawl will have a slim chance in making a spot in a front-running game in our Library Tournaments.
Before you question my thoughts, I'm basing this on my tournament experience, not skill in a Gamecube game. I play many other games most of the time. I may suck at Melee, but I'm very good at Halo PC and Duck Hunt. Anyways, I have attended many Halo PC tournaments. Even after Halo 2 Vista surfaced, the tournaments stuck with Halo PC. Several reasons had to do with gameplay and game physics.
The same goes for Brawl. Even if it were to be released before the next tournament, there is a small chance it will be implemented into the next tournament. I believe it may be put into the prize round, or maybe an offshoot tournament like the Melee Throwdown nights.

EBD you make some good points, but the truth is that the wii has been out for about 2 years now and to my knowledge hasn't produced any tourtament built multiplayer games brawl figures to be a great game and will sell many copies in the first week.
So even if melee is very popular when people see brawl and have a wii they will be playing brawl unless it is an horrible game. So if you put on a flyer super smash bros. tourney that will appeal to many people, but the game is seven years old now so bringing out a new fresh game will bring in many more people. The bulk of this tourney are more causal gamers attracted to the newer thing maybe now what is the better game.

Im pretty sure there wasn't even going to be a discussion about switching to brawl if the resources were in place, but you make some points that probally should be addressed at the planning meeting. Also I don't think we should narrow our selves to kart and super smash only titles. Lets say mario Kart wii is complete garbage maybe we try something else like mario strikers or someother game comes along that would fit all the criteria of a tourney well.

omega-yeah i've been in varsity meets but never a tournament. tournaments are alot more serious because only the very best from the schools team go. For example only 7 out of the 35 people we have go to the varsity tournament.
