Get your Nintendo DS ready

by john

Rev up your Nintendo DSs and bring them in to the tournament. Play against each other while you wait for your match!

We now have a tool that will allow you to register your DSs with our wireless system. It can be found under the "My Account" menu option. Click on "Wireless Devices". You will need to have a valid library card registered with the system in order to use the advanced wifi menu, but you all have library cards, right?

You'll have to provide the MAC address from your DS in order to add it, and it'll have to be switched on and associated with the AADL SSID before you can do so. This means that you can log in and register your device from anywhere in the library (even a catalog station).

Have fun!

first post!!!!

Wait I'm confused can we register it if we have accessed the library WiFi with it?

Our normal wireless registration requires you to go to a web page to get on the internet at the library. Obviously, you can't do that with your DS (yet). This tool lets you put in your DS's network id so it can access the internet, but you can only add devices that the library network has seen before. So, to get your DS on our network:

1. Go to Malletts Creek, West, or the Downtown Library.
2. Turn on your DS, and with a Nintendo WFC-enabled title, go into WFC setup.
3. Choose a connection and select find an access point.
4. Choose any of the access points that it finds called AADL.
5. Do a connection test. It will fail, but you're now known to our network.
6. Go to a catalog station and log into your account. It needs to be an account that has a library card associated with it.
7. Go to 'Wireless Devices' on your My account page.
8. Enter your DS's network ID, from the setup screens.
9. Restart your DS, and you're good to go for a year!

Alternately, you can just have us help you with it at the next tournament. It sounds complex, but it's really easy once you know what to do. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is blowing up your balloons.

Ok that's what I figured. The system has to have made contact before your accepted. Cool we don't need to be appoved or anything.

I have finally procured my own copy of Mario Kart DS, as well as a DS to play it on (I managed to somehow find a Blue used one, that was pretty cool) and I'm trying to register my DS with the wireless system, but it says that my library card is invalid. I put the same number in that's on the back of my card like, five thousand bazillion times, but it still says it's the wrong number. Help!!!!!

*Edit, like 2 minutes later*
Okay, upon further inspection of my library card, it was a "6" instead of a "5"!!! It's because that one spot on my card is rather worn away, and it looked like a 5, but it was a 6.

Nobody cares, I know, but I need to tell somebody, since I don't talk to anybody else in the class that I'm avoiding work in right now. :-D
Gotsta love them there computer labs where the teacher never checks what you're actually doing.

Alas, I do not have one yet, because I haven't been able to make it to any location that is Wi-Fi enabled yet. I registered with the library system, but I don't have that code thingy, since I haven't been able to come to the library since I got my DS. Oh well, I'll set it up this Saturday. Speaking of which, who wants to have a mini-tournament this Saturday at the tournament? Eh? Eh? Omokusaki, I'll bet you could come to, the DS tournament wouldn't have an age limit, I hope. That would be fun. :-D

Unfortunately I live in Lansing and (not to sound greedy or anything because I think Eli and crew do a great job setting everything up) if there isn't a prize available I probably won't make the drive.

Nah, that's totally understandable. Coming from Lansing is too far a drive if there's nothing in it, I agree.

Also, does anyone who has Mario Kart DS know if there's any reason (other than personal pride) for the rankings at the end of the cups and missions? (i.e.: ***,**,*,A,B,C,D, etc.) Do they serve a purpose, or are they just to enable good people to feel better about themselves?

Just out of curiosity sparked by greed, of the following, which entities are NOT in possession of a DS/multiple DS's?
