Close Encounters of both Adorable and Frightening Kinds

Wednesday brings possibly the cutest event of the year to the Library—the Preschool Halloween Party and Parade. Hundreds of tiny people in puffy, sparkly and often enormous costumes snake their way through the Downtown Library, collecting treats at the public service desks.

Halloween is, alas, your one opportunity to see a ghost at AADL. George Eberhart at I Love Libraries, however, has compiled a comprehensive list of places to find spectors, spirits and other like-minded visitors at libraries throughout the country, including the Starkweather Home in Ypsilanti, which housed a library from 1890 until 1964. Mary Ann Starkweather, one of the home’s original owners, is rumored to occupy the second floor.
