Youthful Images and Imagination
Kids' films can leave parents with glassy eyes and heavy hearts, but not The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, just out on DVD and soon to be available at the library. Director Robert Rodriguez Spy Kids once again delivers non-stop action, dynamite effects, and a decent, if slightly twisty, story. Born in Max's imagination, Sharkboy and Lavagirl suddenly spring to life, with huge problems to solve if their imaginary world is to be saved. With the exception of a few scary stretches, this qualifies as good entertainment for elementary-age children and their parents.
