Last month, Clan Us proved that they weren't a one-trick pony. This month, they proved that the pony can still do multiple tricks repeatedly even if you cut off 2 of its strongest legs. That's one strong pony. Even without the presence of the mighty Royster brothers and even missing their solid third-stringer , Us was still able to dominate the afternoon with only smash masters #1 lain. (also known as lain) and #2 Pwnerer, plus the increasingly impressive double threat limabean, who is now ranked 3rd over all, as Us hangs onto the top 4 spots on the leaderboard even with the amazing #4 *KZ* Royster having missed an entire event. Us stayed pegged atop the clan standings all day and narrowly missed a victory sweep, even triumphing once again in the clan battle surprise game, Pixeljunk Racers. Read on for full event details.

We started off a little late as ejk and I dawdled before opening registration, with 58 competitors for the Smash Singles. The final 8 told a story both familiar but unusual as all 3 of Us were joined by Clan SSB's Notra and #5 double threat Dale W, the enigmatic Princess Tutu, skilled rookie Stephen H and #21 swordmaster, who was perhaps avenging his unfortunately underaged brother/prodigy. The finals, however, told a totally familiar story as lain., Pwnerer and limabean swept 1-2-3, with Stephen H being one of the first to win the new improved lousy tshirt.

28 Smash Teams then faced off for our infamous cheaply-tiebroken-not-quite-double-elimination-but-sorta format, and the final 8 featured both Us teams (as limabean teamed up with swordmaster, a great matchup) and both Brothers of Maplewood teams (with the Hibbs brothers D-Rex and Monkeyman also in absence), along with two teams from the Reds (the Greens and the Blues) and Team ABC which included Stephen H. While the Durskis were able to eliminate limabean and swordmaster, BOM couldn't stop Lain and Cisco from winning the event, though the Savages still took 2nd and the Durskis took 4th prize, showing BOM's team smash depth, as Team AJ Products, inc, from the Angry Little Girls clan nabbed 3rd prize.

Kart Singles got rolling with 52 competitors, the closest to the smash count that kart has yet been as more smashers stay for kart. The final match featured limabean, BOMers TurtlePerson2 and Johninabox, the fearsome Notra and Dale W of Clan SSB, plus [gplayer:151], Bob Dole, and #23 Dr. J, in what was not his first trip to the kart final. limabean did his part to keep the sweep alive as he seized first from Notra, leaving TurtlePerson2 to 3rd as Johninabox settled back into 4th.

Things were running on schedule as we began Kart Teams, with 24 teams making for nice full matches. We were plagued with reports of controller trouble, however, things kept moving through to the final race, which brought together all 6 Angry Little Girls, (including another good pairing on limabean with masteraj) plus The Reds and Lard-In-A-Box, then Jewels and Money (featuring Notra) and a notable appearance of a girl in the finals (let alone the room), as cbake and formidable rookie The Mexican Gazelle lined up for what would be an amazingly intense race. When the dust cleared, Notra and Spilled Milk had roared to 1st place for clan SSB, robbing Us of a sweep as ALG's Tru Products takes 2nd, The Reds show promise with 3rd, and Us-ALG alliance limabean and masteraj took 4th.

Despite fielding only three competitors, Us still pwned the clan leaderboard, racking up 8305 points, with BOM a distant second with 6780. The first round of the clan battle was single-player kart, with 4 Angry Little Girls against 4 racers from Clan SSB. ALG won decisively, moving on only to get immediately swept by BOM's two teams in team smash. The final game, the brilliant PSN title Pixeljunk Racers, had each clan fielding 4 players in a round of Sunday Drivers. The clan that passed the most cars before time ran out would ride to Clan Battle victory. BOM posted an excellent score, but Us, aided by sub masteraj and Pwnerer's preternatural first-time skill with the title, edged them out to claim a second-straight Clan Battle victory, building their first-place season leaderboard cushion to within a stone's throw of 10,000 points, while 2nd-place BOM retains an 8,000 point cushion over Clan SSB. To put that in perspective, the point gap between the top 4 clans is more than the total season score for the next 4 clans put together. Is that meaningful? I'm not certain, but it sure did require a calculator.

Next up: the end of the regular season in just 3 weeks, plus more Guitar Hero & DDR, plus the Return of Pikmin 2 and a post-thanksgiving Pokemon D&P Tournament that will knock your socks off. Stay tuned!

I just wanted to let everyone know (and this is true), after the demo, we know now that Wavedashing is NOT in Brawl.

Why would they put WDing in Brawl it's a glitch. If they had a patching system in Melee it wouldn't be in Melee either.

While it's what makes melee such a great game for hardcore competition it makes the learning curve steeper and Nintendo would rather make a game that's accessible than deep.

actually, TP2, that doesn't really matter.

wavedashing is a result of your character moving towards the solid, horizonatal floor, and to not have them move THROUGH said object, the physics engine (obviously) cuts off the airdodge animation and turns it into momentum on the ground. that momentum, coupled with the character's traction, and distance from the ground, makes it... TA-DA!

wavedashing.

l-cancelling is more important though. and from the looks of the brawl demo, as far as we know, it's not in.

What doesn't matter, you just explained how Wavedashing works.

er i meant the patching system isn't really relevant. it wouldn't fix what's happening. wavedashing isn't exactly a glitch. just... the physics engine at work. haha.

the only way to... "fix" wavedashing is to... not have your character be able to wavedash in a direction. which apparently happened in brawl. : (

Wavedashing while not technically a glitch is an unexpected side-effect of the physics engine. As a Computer Science major, I can safely say that unintended effects are looked down on because it can be exploited and cause actual glitches in the programming (which can cause effects outside gameplay, like deleting save files). Hence when reviewed for a version upgrade it would be removed.

Nintendo can't patch the game because it doesn't have the system in place, but if they had the option of patching the game they would have removed it from the game as soon as it was discovered. Patches have been around on PC games for decades.

A patch would help SSBM a lot though since the characters aren't entirely balanced (neither are all of the courses) and there are a couple of little glitches that I doubt they meant to have in the game.

Also, I think that Brawl will replace melee at the library. The library isn't trying to run a really hardcore event. If the AADL was trying to run a hard core video game tournament at the library they wouldn't play Mario Kart. They might not even play melee. Melee has a relatively small hard core following compared to Starcraft (a game approaching 10 years old) and Counterstrike. I would expect that either Season 5, definitely by season 6 melee will no longer be an event.

Actually TP2 Melee has had "patches" in a way. There are different versions of Melee that have been released as they debugged parts. Bowser use to be able to flame cancel for instance, but current versions have that removed. Odds are the reason wavedashing was not addressed until now, still it is unconfirmed if it is completely absent from Brawl, is most likely because it was a major change in physics, causing a significant/noticeable change in game play. It could also be that they just didn't have the time.

Limabean you underestimate the resources of the Library. Eli managed to get enough money for 8 gamecubes + controlers, 8 TVs, 8 versions of MK:DD plus Lan equipment (with prize money to spare). That was for an experimental tournament. Now add in the fact that Eli is also somewhat influential with the game companies, I'm sure a lot of you saw that PS3 Eli got for free, and you might look at 8 Wiis next year.

Yeah Duck is right, at least for the most part. The sliding itself wasn't unintended, they wanted to put that in there, what was unintended was the way we use it without jumping aka wavedashing. We use it in a way it wasn't intended to be used, the same way we use Fox's shine to "shinespike" people.

I think Brawl should replace Melee in the main events, but we should keep Melee for side tourneys. Melee is, as far as I can see, a much more tournament friendly game. Gimpyfish said Brawl's a lot of fun, and I think it would probably fit better with the AADL.

mmm. i feel they are going to add a lot of stuff into brawl which will definitely make it more of a non-hardcore type game. as far as i can see.

which seems like it would replace melee in the tournaments, which i'm a-ok with. :D it sounds super fun.

i feel that eli shouldn't kick the enthusiasts to the curb though, and keep some melee action somewhere.

it just doesnt seem reasonable to replace games that are already super fun with also it would cause a delema with controlers no matter wat they used i think people would complain, mariokart should be replaced though this has nothing to do with me liking melee more the new kart seems just a lot like mkdd just newer although they would have to switch from gamecubes to wiis in the middle of the turni if they kept them joined which i think they definetly should

The Guitar Hero tournament is on the 9th, the GT is on the 10th, and I think the Pokemon Battle Revolution tournament is the one on the 11th. For those of you who can't figure it out, the GH tournament is a Friday, the GT is on a Saturday, and the Pokemans is on a Sunday.

Being able to beat Jordan in Guitar Hero II means pretty much nothing when it comes to skill. I can't beat it, yet I won the last tournament here and came in third the other one I was at. And, we may be playing GH3, so all your GH2 bragging is for naught.

And as far as your friend being the only one to beat Jordan.... LOL. A laughable concept.

Finally, the tournaments work like so: Everyone is paired up, then those pairs each play two songs in Face-Off mode, and whoever has the highest scores after those songs moves onto one-song eliminations until we have a winner. We may do something different if we play with GH3 though, because it has Battle Mode in it.
