Spoon - Gimme Fiction

by john

Spoon has thrown down a helping of unbelievably good music in their latest offering, Gimme Fiction. While listening to this album, you know you are listening to something special. Even better, you're not going to hear this album looping all over the airwaves, so it's almost like you've found your own private beach in the tropics with a tiki bar serving ice-cold Coronas for a quarter.

The album opens with "The Beast And Dragon Adored" which seems to insist that listening to the rest of the album is critically important. Quickly following behind, is "The Two Sides Of Monsieur Valenti", a pop-rock track underscored by strings and a grand piano. Then there is "I Turn My Camera On", an ironic and sexy criticism of pornography. If you can keep your finger off the back button long enough to get to track 4, you're in for a treat with "My Mathematical Mind", a driving locomotive of a song that'll make you want to forget about gas prices and drive down the highway.

Every song on this album is great. As I said, this one is special. Grateful Dead had American Beauty, Pink Floyd had Dark Side of the Moon. Spoon has Gimme Fiction.
