AADL Now Offers Downloadable Video

The Ann Arbor District Library now has downloadable videos. This new offering of eVideo is provided through the Michigan Library Consortium in conjunction with OverDrive. The Michigan Library Consortium also offers eBooks and eAudio to the library.

Five hundred titles are available. You can browse fifteen categories under the Video tab: Action & Adventure; Children’s Video; Classic Films; Comedy; Documentary; Drama; Foreign Films; IMAX; Music; Mystery & Suspense; Science Fiction & Fantasy; Sports & Recreations; Television; and Western. You can also search by title, keyword, or subject.

The eVideos may be checked out for 7 days.

The link to eVideos can be found on the library’s catalog through the left sidebar: eBooks/eAudio/eVideo.

Please read the Help – Basics – OverDrive Video for details on using this new service.

OverDrive Video is a high speed Internet-only product.

The eVideos operate on most Windows computers.

You will need to download the free OverDrive Media Console version 2.0 (or later) to play the OverDrive Video titles.

To use OverDrive Media Console, you will need to have Windows Media Player (9 Series or newer) installed on your PC.

Microsoft Windows Media Player is a free download.

I'm a mac user too, Ed, and for the time being, we are out of luck. Overdrive, the statewide product for digital content, does not support Macs or the iPod due to DRM squabbling. We are constantly looking for a more widely usable alternative to this product, but for now, this is the best that's out there. These content businesses are heavily invested in Microsoft's windows-only DRM frameworks, and frankly, I think the rights holders are a little afraid of the iPod. When a product becomes available, we will very likely jump on it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
