Guitar Hero, DDR, Super Smash Bros. and More: It's a tournament weekend!

Yeah, sure, so it's supposed to be beautiful this weekend; sunny, mid-70's, all that crap. All the more reason to sequester yourself in a library basement and play video games all weekend, right?

RIGHT!

That's right, it's our last off-season tournament weekend, and we've got an awesome lineup of events planned that's got something for everyone in the cool recesses of the basement of the Downtown Library. First, on Friday night, 6/29, from 6:00 - 8:45, we'll have a cool combo event as we host simultaneous all-ages tournaments in Guitar Hero II and Pikmin 2, with separate prizes for the winners of each. Enter one or both competitions, and rock out while you attempt to out-marshal your opponents with your legions of Pikmin in one of the GameCube's most underappreciated battle modes.

Then, on Saturday, 6/30, from Noon - 5 ish, we'll have a mammoth Super Smash Bros. Melee Regulation Throwdown, including multiple pools, no items, neutral stages only, optional advanced slobs, and hopefully a team event if time allows (which it probably will). This is your last chance to prove your itemless superiority and size up potential clan members before the preseason event July 21, and with many of our heavy hitters likely to be attending a tournament in Midland, there will likely be a power vacuum that could shake things up.

Finally, on Sunday, 7/1, from 1 - 4, we'll have an all-ages DDR tournament including a prize for the best adult/kid team , so grab a reluctant adult and strong-arm them into humiliating themselves in front of a crowd for a shot at some extra dough.

Then, next week, we'll be shooting interviews for our upcoming GT documentary at the CTN studio on main street, so anyone who's interested in participating in that can email me at eli at aadl.org to get on the shooting schedule. Pairs / siblings / entire clans are encouraged to interview together, so get a group together and come experience the star treatment in front of the blue screen.

so basically what you're saying is, you want me to own everyone at all of the tournaments? except for guitar hero 2(maybe).

and again Eli, please have the regulation tournament be double elimination, as if it wasn't it wouldn't really be a regulation tournament.

and that interview crap? i dunno if i'd want to make a cuckold of myself.

well eli, for seeding purposes i will personally make the brackets for double elim if you want. to save time.

really, i don't want to see cisco in the brackets then go out in 7th or something.

also if there's double elim you better watch out. ; ) got teh best character in the game.

Oh, just letting you know, the Midland tournament was postponed, so I'll be there.

Will, being obnoxious has been out of style for a while now. Do you know how many people can run Singles and Doubles with over 30 people, with 8 TVs in 5 hours? It's not easy. At FC6, there were about 5 times the number of people, with about 5 times the number of TVs. Do you know how long Singles took? About 14 hours. Doubles took about 6.

Remember Michigan Unite? Doubles took about 4 hours, we had like 14 teams and 3 TVs. Should take about 2-2(1/2) at the Library, with more TVs, but even still, Singles will take a WHILE.

Again, it's not like Eli's the Library God and can just have the basement for 24 hours on a Saturday.

If he'd be okay with cutting to Top 16, it'd probably take as long to do that double elim as it would single elim with 32. Either way, it's not really that big of a deal. Way back in like 2002, guess what tournaments were? Single Elim. If they hadn't been fun, people wouldn't have bothered changing it to double elim and making it the widely played game it is today.

Not trying to insult you, but that's kind of a mean way to ask for something when you're really already getting kind of a lot.

Hey Eli, have you ever considered running a low-tier tournament? I know it'd be a lot of Smash, but you should think about it. Low-tier tournaments are a lot more fun in my opinion, just because a lot of the "really good players" can end up losing really early to people who play casually and aren't terrible, because the "really good player" only plays Fox/Falco and the casual player plays Mewtwo or Zelda or some other terrible character.

No, Zelda may not switch to Sheik.

Why would you ever need sponsors? There's no cost to participate in any of the events at the library.

will melee still be only 2 stock three min because that really sucked.
Also i would like it to be doulbe elimination too. I mean anyone could get stuck with a person they could not beat at the beginning of the tourney but they usually get second or third place. This time if they lost they would not get another chance. Also will there only be one round or the best of 3.

oh yeah omega you werent there at the last regulation, its 4 stock 8 minutes. Basically has all the same rules as a standard tournament except that its single elim and i dont think friendly fire is on

Smash tourament sounds cool. I will try to be their. I dont know because i got home from a trip a few hours ago. So i will be a little out of shape melee wise. 5 hours!!! That might be a little long will it actually take that long.

John? Sponsors? How did you advertise your clan?!?

GT documentary sounds amazing. TC mighyt have to make its own documentrey. Turtle Clan : A legacey revealed. Turtle Clan:Out of the shell.
So just tell me when and me and my bro will be there. If you could try to keep it away from 4th of july.

Ratings will be good especially if you want to compare people with different levels of participation in tourneys because right now you can only view lump sums of points and not averages.

well. i am certainly disappointed.

disappointment #1: Me and Cisco not knowing that it was only best of 1, thus us douching around the first match. And losing the "set".

disappointment #2: Losing my mm'es. HUGE disappointment. i'd love to mm you guys again soon, but hey, no johns. you guys beat me fair and square.

gg to you all. rules were not that clear, but hey. it's cool.

-first of all great job eli for running the tourney it was enjoyable to say the least

-shin in winners and erad in losers, one of the worse brackets ever :/

OK, guys, please remember that there are no MMs at AADL, and if you want to talk about them, you should do it on the unofficial forums.

Also, Lain, I'm guess you weren't listening when everyone else heard me say that teams were single match, single elimination.... since team MewDorf was the only team that didn't get the memo apparently. =)

I think it was a great tournament with some new (to AADL) competitors, especially Anther, who was simply unstoppable in the elimination rounds.... thanks to all for coming!

I wouldn't consider Anther unstoppable i think if i got another shot at him i could have beat him i had down to one life in our first match. He does play a really good pikachu no one can take that away from him.

Anther plays much better comparatively in tournaments than at smashfests...

However, he still succumbed to the Fox. Ganondorf failed me though, and that's my major dissapointment.

omega- i should have beaten anther in that falco ditto but i made a silly mistake. It won't happen again. Anyways he had a good pikachu but i beat him with game & watch. Also lain if you wan't to do more matches then sure any time. We were hoping to win about 50 and ended up losin 40 and going home gainning nothing but more stress. I was going to give you your money back sense we're going to be in the same clan but i dicided not too. MONEY IS VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD IF IT'S FREE. Oh and swordmaster your falco needs alot of pratice. Don't worry everyone has been in your situation asking theirself how they can get better.

omega-sorry but we already invested the money into halo 3. Anyways what is spacing and everyone seemed to get a little bitter(except the noobs). You more then likely gainned the most(nice fox). So do you still think cisco is 10x better then me. Also not to mention but to everyone else that is not in our clan smash this season is forever out of your reach.

spacing is like... staying an amount of distance away from your opponent to a point where it favors you. like if i was marth i'd space myself just far enough way to tipper you a lot and stuff.

swordmaster, i don't really want to accept you into our clan. you cause too much ruckus. plus you just said it yourself you want to join our clan just so you don't have to fight us. you're not getting in.

limabean's cool though, better then 80% of the rest of the aadl at smash and kart. that shows promise.

omega-uuummm... well i'll have to talk it over with some people that are already in my clan to make suck a big choice. Anyways like lain said we are really in demand for kart players so if you want to be in our clan you need to brush up on your kart skills. We have the ultimate powerhouse for ssbm so i don't think we really need anymore smash players.

Anther was good and he probally could've beat me a lot, but after a good amount of matches i think i could have gotten use to his pikachu.

For clan decisions we want to wait and see what the clan prize will be. Eli do you have any idea what it is going to be? If it is 10 dollars probally not but if it is 100 yes.

we should have the return of real clan prizes this year, but i can't commit yet. Soon. We're also working on a slightly more substantial cup itself....

By the way, there won't be any studio time this thursday, 7/5... TP2 and Bad Driver, are you available next wednesday afternoon?

I get what you are saying Lain. I just think if i played him a lot the whole suprise of the pikachu might be gone and i MIGHT be able to beat him. I did get pretty close in our match. Eli I dont know. We wont becoming down today or anytime this week. Is there a time next tuesday or next week in the evening would work best if that is possible.

Bad Driver, I really think you'd have a hard time beating Anther if he was trying, at any time in the near future.

I dunno why I lost with Ganondorf though, and that is the true misery.

omega- we only need kart players for the clan thing at the end of the tourney. Everything else is under control. ssbm rules and kart is just... well 50% luck and 50% skill so yeah. limabean if your not in our clan i could care less about what clan you are in. That really doesn't matter to me.

shin and omega, i think we should definitely consider Limabean. He is pretty darn good at it. Unless we get those top kart players.

omega-look well i got a bad feeling that tp2 and bad driver are going to leave us hanging. If you are going to be in our clan you'll have to bring a person that is skilled and THAT you can practice with regularly aswell. For example lain and pwnerer. They can practice smash together, therefore they have a good team and are good parterners. YOU ON THE OTHER HAND DO NOT HAVE AN ALL TIME PARTNER. I know this because you teamed up with Anther who is not a regular at the tounis. Think of the clan as sections of two that come together to make six. All of the people in the clan will always have a partner (that they have practiced with) which will lead to good results in the end. If you don't do it like this then every thing will be a mess and unorganized. This way you and your partner will bring much more value. This is the main reason we NEED TP2 AND BAD DRIVER.

Ok to clarify a few things. TP2 and I were gone for awhile, its summer. TP2 is going to be a senior next year and i am going to be a freshman. My brother rarley checks the blog and i dont check nearly as much as I use too. Really the only times he checks it is when i tell him there is something about him. For the clan we are waiting to see what the prizes are. My brother will not be at pre-season. Anyone need a team kart partner? Right now for the clan thing we are leaning towards no. I want to wait to see what the prizes are going to be.

Another thing we are looking at is who won last year? Pocket rockets. They are the only clan who won money. The one not with melee or kart skill. They won by knowing the surprise round game. So in the end it doesnt come down to your skill in kart or melee but your superiority in a random game. I dont know if the format or prizes will be the same. That will decide our clan choice.

we were THE best smash crew overall. other clans had big hitters but we had COLLECTIVELY the most skill. don't even tell me about no melee skill, cause i could probably rock your whole clan with hung_lo.

we won the final round by knowing the surprise game (big deal, quit whining, gg), but our smash skill was supreme during the championship. we got 1st, with all of our representatives, in every game, every round (except for one i believe in teams).

PR didn't know anything about kart, but don't deny our smash skill.

omega-well your half way right bad driver. Your right about the mistery game being a big peice but you cannot always rily on something that is random. Look how far the mistery game brought you and your clan. PR's were good at smash. I would not say they were the best but they were good. Stop basing everything on the mystery game and just give me an answer. I need it now or we will have to just forget about it. NO is likely to be the answer but even if you say no you'll be sorry in the end. lain other then limabean have you thought of anyone else specific to be in our clan.

the only consistent kart players i can see from the past standing are TurtlePerson2, Pickwick the Second, and Sir Ducksalot.

if anything, i want those guys.

Our plan is to have the return of real clan cup prizes this year. They will be worth winning.

Of course, plans are subject to change, but that's the plan. I know that the clan prizes sucked last year, and we will do better this year.

So Eli is there any chance that any of us will be able to see your new machines, you know the ones you got for free, for open play or something where we can actually test them out. I don't think I've seen one outside of a store and I'd bet very few people here own one.

I think I remember PR wimping out on a Me (four stocks) vs PR (sixteen stocks) crew battle.

It was quite a hoot. I fourstocked everyone on their crew, effectively making any crew I'm in better than PR at Smash.

So actually we had the best Smash Crew.

huh? well actually it was your crew (that you were like, going to make up on the spot) vs my crew. not just you.

we'd have lost. regardless. haha. in a sense, yes, your skill did boost a crew's smash level considerably, but we had more people winning, vs the... just you. that's my point.

No, I'm talking about something I learned about at the last pokemon tournament. I think I'm the only player that knows about it unless Leinad found out during the interviews (maybe I told pickwick as well). But alas I really want to see one before I head for college.
