The Play Ground

by Albert

Summer is as good a time for a tearjerker as any and Redbud Productions has a doozy for you. Steel Magnolias is a comedy-drama about the bond among a group of southern women in northwest Louisiana. Although the main storyline involves Shelby, her mother, and Shelby's medical battles, the underlying group-friendship among all six women is prominent throughout the play. And at Truvy's beauty salon all the ladies who are anybody come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager but clumsy new assistant, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice. May 31 - June 3 Riverside Arts Center, 76 North Huron Street, Ypsilanti, MI 734-663-7167.
