Science fiction author and gun advocate, Joel Rosenberg, has died

by sernabad

Joel Rosenberg, famous for his science fiction series, Guardians of the Flame (entry number 4 is Heir Apparent) and for his steadfast defense of his Second Amendment rights, died Thursday.

The Canadian born author loved writing science fiction, a career which began when he was bed-ridden for a long time in the mid-80s and needed a distraction from confinement.

He also wrote fantasy and a mystery series featuring Ernest Hermingway.

More recently, Rosenberg made Minnesota headlines for two gun-related incidents. In November of last year he was packing a semi-automatic handgun when he met with a Minneapolis police sergeant. A few weeks later he was briefly put into the county jail for defiantly carrying a weapon into the courthouse, housed in City Hall. That case was pending at the time of his death.

Mr. Rosenberg, who was 57, died of complications from a heart attack and respiratory distress.

A few corrections are in order:

...The Canadian born author

He had a Canadian mother and a United States father - he enjoyed dual citizenship.

...a career which began when he was bed-ridden for a long time in the mid-80s and needed a distraction from confinement.

He was never bed-ridden, except when his back was in spasm - he had 2 detiorated discs in his back. Most of the time he was fine.

...a mystery series featuring Ernest Hermingway.

"Home Front" and "Family Matters" featured a character named Sparky Hemingway and was not based on Ernest.

He was arrested on Dec 7, 2010, over a month after the events of Nov 4, 2010 for being in the Chief of Police Tim Dolan's office lobby at the invitation of Officer William Palmer - he had give previous notice to the Sheriff as per statute that he might be carrying his legal firearm..
