Music Expert Richard LeSueur Discusses Carmen

by hillary dorwart

Enjoy the opera? Learn about the production of Carmen - the elusive seducer!

Richard LeSueur, former Music Specialist at the Ann Arbor District Library, will discuss the opera and the various approaches great singers of the 20th century took to this masterpiece. Is Carmen a seductress or simply a child of nature? How do the four primary characters interact? Also, should the work be performed as Bizet originally intended with dialogue or with the recitatives added by another composer? Recorded examples will highlight this program.

This event is held in conjunction with Arbor Opera Theater's production of Carmen at Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, June 16-19.

Sunday June 12, 2011: 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm -- Downtown Library: aadlfreespace
