Phoebe Snow, 70s Blues singer extraordinaire, has died

by sernabad

Phoebe Snow, who soared to the top of the charts with her song, Poetry Man, died today in Edison, NJ.

Snow, singer, songwriter, and guitarist, began as a folk artist who explored jazz and blues as well, in several albums. But it was Poetry Man which made her a household word in 1975, fame that was sidetracked when she curtailed her career to care for her infant daughter, who was born with severe brain damage.

Snow did several appearances throughout the years, most notably at Camp David at President Clinton's request. She also did a fair amount of commercial work in the 1980s and 1990s, singing jingles for Hallmark and AT&T.

Ms. Snow, who was just 60, died from complications of a stroke suffered in January of last year.
