Film & Discussion: Fresh

by Bertha

Offering us sustainable alternatives to eating better foods, FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people who are re-inventing the way we produce and purchase our food. FRESH features urban farmer and activist Will Allen, former pro-basketball player and founder of the non-profit organization Growing Power. Joining him are sustainable farmer and entrepreneur Joel Salatin along with Michael Pollan, author of Omnivore's Dilemma. Directing the film Ana Joanes is a Swiss-born documentary filmmaker who in this film helps us believe that our individual actions do matter. This film series is cosponsored by the University of Michigan Community Scholars Program. Discussions will be led by the MCSP faculty and students. Hope you can join us!

Thursday, February 17, 6:30-8:30 PM, Downtown Multi-Purpose Room, Grade 9-Adult

I would be so appreciative (and I know I'm not the only one), if this discussion could be filmed and made available. There are alot of us on Facebook, that are following this topic.

I would also love to see and hear this presentation, but am out of town all next week caring for aging parents. I second the request that it be available for later viewing!

Sorry about this reply. We only tape a few events each month and are we are not planning to film the post-film discussion - especially since it will center around the content of the film itself.

We only have the rights to show the film 'Fresh' at the public event in the Multi-Purpose Room and cannot show it online. So, to capture the post- film discussion without being able to include the film means that we would be only able to film half of the content of the event.

In addition, the discussion that will follow is not just a q & a, but is a community discussion by the entire audience in the Multi-Purpose Room. That is sometimes difficult to capture on film, given that each speaker would have to be 'miked' and many (depending on where they are sitting) may not be seen by the camera.

Hope this is helpful.
