I noticed a lot of cities
I noticed a lot of cities voted on library millages, and it dawned on me that I can't remember the last millage for Ann Arbor libraries. I know taxes do fund the library, but now I'm curious. Does the A2 library have other funding? When was the last millage? Did it just have a really long timeframe? Thanks!
When the AADL separated from
When the AADL separated from the AAPS in 1994, the community voted for a millage not to exceed 2 mills in perpetuity. The AADL has never levied the full 2 mills and currently levies 1.55. The Headlee Act limits the millage now to 1.93 mills. The AADL Board sets the levy within the allowed perpetual 2 mills each May in a budget hearing. Property taxes do make up approximately 98% of the budget.
