Perfect Pies & Tarts with Keegan Rodgers

Tuesday July 25, 2017: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Pittsfield Branch: Program Room

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Keegan C. Rodgers, Head Baker at the People's Food Co-Op, leads this hands-on and lively workshop on how to make the perfect pie dough.

Participants will take home enough dough for 2 single crust pies or 1 double crust pie. Learn the difference between pies and tarts, understand the different fillings and crusts for pies and tarts, and understand how to blind bake a pie shell.

Attendees will leave with new baking skills and literature to take home. Tastes of Keegan's baked goods will be included, too!

This event is cosponsored by the People's Food Co-Op and is part of an ongoing baking series.

I make pumpkin pie

From pumpkins I grow or get at the Farmers Market. But, I've only used premade crust. This may be the piece de resistance.

Pie vs Tart Poem

Wonder why
I like pie?
Fruit and crust
Are a must
Flaky texture
Slanted shell
Serve a pie very well.

Now a tart
Plays its part
Richer filling
Denser dough
Up and down
Short and sweet
Make the tart a perfect treat.

I make pumpkin pie.

But my buddy Tom Clark picks blueberries, so I have to let him know about this. He's quite the pieman.

Thank you for offering this!

This looks like a great event - thank you AADL!

Sitting, Registration & Gluten

@ a2sue All of our programs rooms have chairs - seating is always an option.
Keegan won't be covering a gluten-free recipe in this class - it's a jam packed class as is and gluten-free is complicated.
Registration is not required for library events - just show up at the time and place!
