I do

“What is electronegativity?” The chemistry teacher asked.

Electronegativity is a measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons,” a student answered.

I looked at him, completely ignoring what the teacher was saying. I imagined what we could be. We could laugh until our stomachs hurt, take long walks until we run out of places to walk, and enjoy our time together, until we realized how different we are. I like dogs, he liked cats. I am unathletic, he is athletic. I am good at science, he is good at math. I like eating frozen yogurt, he likes ice cream. I guess I could say we are complete opposites.

I twirled strands of my hair around my finger and sighed. I heard the teacher call my name, and my attention refocused to her.

“Could you tell me in your own words what electronegativity is?” she asked.

I was about to answer her until he chimed in.

“It’s when atoms with different charges attract each other,” he said glancing  at me.

“It is when opposites attract,” I said glancing back.

“Do you think this also relates to real life?” the teacher asked.

“I do,” I said gazing back into his eyes.

“Do you take her to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, and sickness and in health, until death do us part,” the Priest said.

“I do,” he said gazing into my eyes.
