Description
Featured artists in the “Creating With Clay” exhibit include Nancy Bulkley, Jeanine Center, Jessica Krivan, Caron Valentine-Marsh, Oni Werth and Lineke Zuiderweg. Most of the artists in the show have been throwing and manipulating clay for many years.
Nancy Bulkley and Jessica Krivan display the more traditional ceramic objects, like colorful vases, bowls and plates that have been thrown on the potters wheel. Jeanine Center, Caron Valentine-March, Oni Werth and Lineke Zuiderweg employ handbuilding techniques and use slabs of clay to shape their ceramic compositions.
Once one begins to create with clay, whether on the potter's wheel or building by hand, it almost becomes an addiction. One can make decorative or functional ceramics, play with underglaze colors or draw on the pieces themselves. After the glazed work comes out of the kiln, the results are always a surprise. Creativity never ends.
