Kerrytown BookFest Reception and Exhibit Opening 2014

Friday September 5, 2014: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm -- Downtown Library - 3rd Floor

AADL will be hosting a pre-Bookfest reception for the 12th annual Kerrytown Bookfest. The event will include elegant refreshments, music by harpist Deborah Gabrion and the grand opening of The Art Of The Book, Kerrytown BookFest’s Exhibit at AADL which showcases entries from the BookFest’s 7th annual Book Cover Design contest for high school students. The exhibit and will be on display on the 3rd Floor of the Downtown Library, through October 12.

The contest, which was open to all Michigan High School students and was sponsored in part by the Michigan Humanities Council, asked the students to re-imagine a cover for a chosen book and give a visual interpretation of the written word. This year’s book was Paddle-to-the-Sea, a Caldecott medal winning book by Holling C. Holling.

John Hilton, editor of the Ann Arbor Observer will make remarks about the 12th annual Kerrytown BookFest, and Robin Agnew, Kerrytown BookFest President and owner of Aunt Agatha’s bookstore will give an overview of the exhibit and the book design contest.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm particularly glad to hear about the cover redesign contest, since so many great older books (for kids, especially) don't get read as often as they might because of covers that don't look up to date.

Want to See

Definitely interested in seeing what the High School students created.
