TEENS ages 14-18! Sign Up for Summer Volunteering

If you like assisting library staff with fun programs, OR if you like working behind the scenes packaging Summer Game orders, then AADL has some work for you between June 17 and August 31.

How do you sign up? Starting Monday May 13 complete your application online. Fill in the information and submit. If you don’t have computer access, just stop by any branch, get on a computer, go to aadl.org/teenvolunteer, and submit the form. NOTE: you MUST be age 14-18 AND be able to attend an orientation at the Downtown Library 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17.

Applications for volunteering will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, June 7. Library staff will contact the adult references you list to be sure you are qualified to volunteer and let you know if you are part of the summer AADL volunteer crew.

Near the top of the online application click teen volunteer permission. This will give you the information AND permission that you must have your parents sign and bring to the Monday June 17th orientation.

The Summer Game is for all ages but only you, our teens, will get to help on the inside. The numbers of volunteer slots are limited so stop by today to get your information sheet!

I'd like to note that students at Washtenaw International High School (wihi.org) are not done for the school year until Tuesday June 18. They are sitting exams on Monday and Tuesday mornings that week. I am therefore disapointed that the program apparently will not be available to WiHi students from Ann Arbor. I don't suppose you would reconsider? At the least, please keep this in mind for next summer!

cherylo: I received your voice mail message regarding the volunteer orientation date conflict with WIHI. AADL wants to ensure that all interested teens have the opportunity to volunteer and we are happy to make accommodations for this. While the orientation date for this year is set, we will gladly make arrangements for students who are unable to make that date due to a conflict. I look forward to speaking with you about this. Best -Eric Schoenbaechler, Supervisor, Youth & Adult: Services & Collections

I really want to volunteer, but right now I'm 13 years old. My birthday is in about 4 days, when I'll turn 14. Is it okay if I fill in the application today, when I'm still 13, since I'll be 14 by the time volunteering starts?

Hello! Thank you for your question. Yes, this will be okay. We look forward to your application. Happy Birthday!!

Thank you!
I also really want to fill out Summer Game orders, but it seems that it's only on Thursdays from 9 am to 2 pm. On the application, I can only select Evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays because I have summer camps on some weeks. However, I do have some Thursdays that are free. If I want to help fill out Summer Game orders but can't do some days, should I check the Days box or just leave it blank and mention this at the orientation?

Hello! Please feel free to select the Days box, as well. You will be able to sign up for whichever programs work with your schedule during the orientation. Thank you!

Wish I had seen this earlier :(
