Introduction to Linix and the Command Line: Speak to your computer in a language it understands. Learn how to interact with Linux machine from the command line, navigate the file system, create directories and edit files from the command line, write and invoke scripts, and automate basic tasks.
Introduction to Programming - Octave/MATLAB: GNU Octave (an open-source alternative to MATLAB) is a high-level programming language with extensive capabilities for data manipulation and visualization. Learn how to write computer programs using Octave and learn about statements, variables, functions, control-flow structures and fundamental programming concepts, as well as how to work with matrices and visualizing big data sets. Suggested preparation: Basic command line knowledge or attend Introduction to Linux on February 8.
Introduction to Machine Learning: How can we build systems that automatically learn from data and recognize patterns as humans do? Acquire a basic knowledge of fundamental ideas in machine learning, how to build systems to learn from Big Data and make intelligent predictions, a well as how to build your own system for automatic handwritten digit classification in Octave. Suggested preparation: Familiarity with Octave/MATLAB or attend Introduction to Programming - Octave on February 15.
Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and the training rooms open 15 minutes before classes begin.
