E3

by Edith Wharton

Presented by the Entertainment Software Association, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or Exposition), commonly known as E³ or E3, is the world's largest annual trade show for the computer and video games industry and the third largest gaming convention. The expo is open only to game industry professionals, celebrities and journalists who are over eighteen.

The 2006 E³ show focused on the upcoming releases of Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, along with the next wave of games for the Nintendo DS and Xbox 360. Several websites such as the Washington Post noted in retrospect that Nintendo clearly dominated and stole the show. They cite as an example the queues; which were approximately half an hour long to play the PlayStation 3 and up to four hours long to play the Wii.

I read on GameSpot that the Nintendo Queue was strategic to get people to stop and look at their other products such as DS games. Although I will admit that they had the largest announcement and in many ways dominated news coming out of the show.

I also read that there were 0 game cube games shown by Nintendo at the show.

"TORTURIS EXUVIAS EUNT"

Yeah, pretty much by now the Gamecube is dead, except for the debut of Twilight Princess, which now is not going to come out until the Wii version does.

TurtlePerson2 that's called advertising. When was the last time you saw a product that didn't have a company name on it. Cover art on books, CDs and games exists just to get people's attention. Casinos are designed so that you can never find a clock or an exit. Public schools have "Good News" assemblies. It's all advertising and if Nintendo's queue was the only one that advertised then I don't have much hope for the 360 or PS3 let only 3rd party companies.

Nintendo knows for a fact that their machine in the next generation is going to be the least powerful graphics-wise, which is (unfortunately) a big draw for many of the "hardcore" gamers, when there are actually a lot of very good games for the Gamecube (and, in the future, the Wii). By srategically positioning their booths and advertising well for their products, they promote their products more and force them to stay in people's minds for longer after the show, thereby increasing the chances that they'll go out and buy one later.

I didn't actually watch the video, but if it's the pop goes the weasel tune, then I can almost guarentee that your teacher didn't invent it, maybe he made a video for it, but singing that quadratic formula to pop goes the weasel has been around for a long time.

What an interesting way to teach quadratic equations... attempting to appeal to both Star Wars and hip hop communities was clever.. but the dancing baby was scary. 0_o

Hey guys...wait i changed my name to JeadhaGackbehCCC but it isnt changed. If its just glitchy and it realy is changed then WADDUP ITS JOE SMO!! when are we gonna get some new tournaments???

Im in awe....
still in awe
ok enough of aweness awesome Eli just plain Awesaome i fu could do that for all the tourtaments with there ranking next to them and stuff and how they did there so that way if u wanna be really complex u could have some compex scoring algotrithm to grade you quality of opponets verse how well u did for examplei played uncle meat and tp2 and got 2nd so i would have got a lot of credit for that as m,y next match wasnt as competive and i got 3rd so i would hve had far less points there. Ayway good job Eli have that for a whole season would be beyond sweet.

Also why did the tourney end so quickly u had a lot more time?

That was a LOT of fun, even though I went out in the Quals. There were a few really good players I've not seen before. Then, of course, there were the usual masters... Watching Dragoon Black and Ownerer fight was incredible, and very enlightening.
I'm also curious as to why it ended so early. There were more people last time, I think, which would be an obvious source of increased time; were there also more qualification rounds per person?

Well, that level of data is available for any event in the past season... just click on a player from the leaderboard, and then you can click on any of the events they played in to get that screen.

Your idea about player rating is an excellent one, BD, we'll work on that for next season. The melee ended early because I worried about finishing in time, so I set the tournament up for only 3 quals apeice. However, everybody knew what they were doing so things went smoothly and fast. We would have had time for 4 quals apeice easy, but by the time I saw how well everything was going, it was too late to add rounds. Sorry about that.

Ok, I'm home now. The reasons I didn't go are:

1. I was sick all weekend (and right now too, I'm not going to school tomorrow)
2. I was on a caving trip somewhere in Indiana all weekend (7 hr drive)

I hope you guys had fun...

Hey! someone posted!
I have been on this forum a lot but I just decided to not post, there isn't much to talk about. So remember, even if I don't post, I'm still watching.

Well, the actual graduation is on a Thursday (June 8th, my birthday also :-D), but our last day is still technically next friday, although that's only to pick up caps & gowns and the like. So at this point, yes, we only have 3 days left. And by 'we', I mean Me.

Indeed, 'tis somewhat quiet... We need something else to talk about. Melee and Kart might be considered old topics, and video gaming as a whole has been discoursed upon at some length.... Politics is, of course, "right out", as the keeper of the Holy Hand-Grenade would say (I must note, for the record, that this is but a jest, since this fact went unnoticed last time); "Pirates vs. Ninjas" has been done; and that leaves little, other than: Furbies!!! Each of us has a special story about our interactions with these lovable, furry little horrors to relate! Mine runs thusly: Once upon a time, there was a little boy who got a Furby for his birthday. He was a very happy little boy, especially after he opened his gift, and he had many adventures with his Furby; he took it everywhere he went. One day, the little boy was driving in the country with his parents and, of course, his brave little Furby, when all of a sudden came a big deer running across the road! The little boy's parents couldn't stop in time, and so they hit the poor deer, which, unfortunately, died shortly after. The windshield shattered, and there was a big jolt to all of the passengers. The Furby, which had been sleeping, woke up and started talking again. The first thing it said was, "Fun! Want do again!" When they got home again, the little boy took his Furby downstairs to the basement and stuffed it as far under the couch as it would go (it was light-activated.) The little Furby never saw the light of day again. THE END
This was related to me by the little boy in the story some years later, and, I have reason to believe, is grounded entirely in fact (he let me look under the couch; I accidentally reactivated the Furby, for which he has since, I believe, forgiven me.)

Sorry..... It was 3:30 AM, and my normal inhibitions about writing strange posts aren't in effect during the period from 2:47 AM to about 4:19 AM.

haven't been on for awhile because not much to talk about. Yeah i know you could check that but u couldn't check who u played agnaist could you? and where they were ranked
Turtle clan traing camp will open late june or early july(for me and tp2 at least) A media report will be released when we start :)jk.
i do like the ranking system. Theres just a few big questions attached to it. First off how do u rank somebody by that tourtament or over the season. If u do it by the tourney how do u rank the first match and if u do it by the season how do u rank a newcomer. But eli im sure u will figure out someway.
Turtle clan is trying to merge 2 clans or find new members. Eli can i have a commentarey tryout postion please
