Help Seniors at Doctor Appointments
by iralax
Jewish Family Services is looking for volunteers who have experience in health care, social work or personal care-giving to become Patient Partners, who accompany seniors to doctor appointments. JFS will provide a required 12 hours of training in early October, and the PP must be available for a least one doctor visit per month. The service involves meeting with the senior before their appointment to prepare questions and to make sure their medication list is up-to-date. At the appointment the PP facilitates communication with the doctor, records all follow-up instructions, and prepares a summary of the outcomes for the patient and family. To learn more or to volunteer with the program, please call Deborah Renner or Abbie Lawrence-Jacobson at 734-769-0209.

We're very excited at JFS to be able to train a second cohort of volunteers for Patient Partners. I just wanted to note that Jewish Family Services works with people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds, both as clients in terms of our volunteers and staff!
