The Detroit Tenors

Monday November 28, 2011: 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room
The latest sounds blowing in from Detroit are from the Detroit Tenors, led by tenor saxophonists Carl Cafagna and Steve Wood. Hear them live at the Library!
The band is a tribute to the great tenor sax pairings of the '40s and '50s such as Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon/Wardell Gray, Johnny Griffin/Lockjaw Davis, and Al Cohn/ZootSims. The Detroit Tenors also take this tradition into the modern era with arrangements from the "tenor-centric" bands of Elvin Jones, and compositions by such contemporary players as George Coleman and George Garzone.
