by lucroe

The 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature went to the notable French writer, Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio (pen name, J. M. G. Le Clezio). Born on April 13, 1940, in Nice, he began his writing at the ripe age of eight while on a voyage to Nigeria where his father, a doctor during WWII, was stationed. Later in life, he taught French language and literature in Korea, Bangkok, Mexico City, Boston, Austin and Albuquerque. His novels traverse a range of writing styles and subject matters but most recently has touched on childhood, adolescence, and his own family history. Many French readers consider him to be the greatest living French language writer. The Swedish Academy who oversee the Nobel Prize in Literature called his works, "poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy". The library has some of his major works in English translation as well as in French.
