You Were Never Lovelier, on DVD

by manz

You Were Never Lovelier, starring Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth, is a classic from 1942 worth watching. Eduardo Acuna has four lovely daughters, and according to Argentinian tradition they must marry in order. Next up is Hayworth’s character Maria, who apparently, has the heart of an icebox and scoffs men and marriage. Her two younger sisters with suitors already lined up cannot take another moment of waiting for Maria to tie the knot before they are allowed to. Mr. Acuna gets involved and tries to set beautiful Maria up. In steps Astaire’s Bob Davis, and the usual mix-ups and phenomenal dance numbers ensue. Perhaps it’s a similar storyline to other Astaire films, but oh, they are fun to watch. If you’re looking for more top Astaire picks, check out Carefree, The Gay Divorcee, and Shall We Dance.
