Super Smash, DDR, Karaoke Revolution and More: This Weekend!
AADL-GT: Ann Arbor District Library Game Tournaments
We've got a weekend of multiplayer mayhem lined up for you at the library, starting off with a Super Smash Bros. Melee Tournament for ages 13+, Friday Night, 2/24, from 6-9 PM at the Downtown Library. First prize $40, Second prize $30, third prize $20.
Then, on Saturday, 2/25, we've got an all-ages Dance Dance Revolution tournament from Noon-3 Downtown, immediately followed by our first ever all-ages Karaoke Revolution tournament, from 3-5! So you can dance, but can you SING? These tournaments will feature the lovely and talented Edith as your MC, and the format will be similar to our DDR tournaments, with qualifying duets for score, and then elimination. Both tournaments will have $40/$30/$20 prizes, so if you're a double threat, you can win big. Games will be either Karaoke Revolution volume 3 or Karaoke Revolution Party, with all songs unlocked. Check out songlists here.
We'll then head into midwinter break with Open Play events, including DDR Mario Mix, Donkey Konga, Monkey Ball, and more, Sunday, 2/26 and Monday 2/27, from 1-4, for grades 5 and under, and Teen Open Play, Tuesday, 2/28 from 1-4.
So, brave the winter winds, get downtown, and warm up with some hot competition this weekend!

U cant get mad at me now doomblaze there were 30+ new comments. Plus u guys aren't talking bout much anyway. I was talking to my brother about practicing and he made a comment about ow mariokart and melee really aren't fun anymore. Mariokart is fun there but, playing agnaist computers. Melee i never really practiced and might try to learn a new character. Compared to computer games though gamecube is kinf of boring although i am getting into some older games.
Tourtament structure
I dont know if this got defintley decided but , i had some ideas abput qualifaction and elimnation rounds and so on.
Single player melee
3 qualifaction rounds ( 9 rouunds if you have 96 or under people )
If you lower the amount of stock and time to 2 and 2 minutes you could finish this in 30-35 minutes. Then the top 32 move on where they each play 2-3 rounds depending on time then the top 16 from the most recent round move on to a seeded double elimination. Since there is money for top three single elimantion isnt fair. Single elimantion is made for finding the top person. Although one might say it is seeded so they you earn an easy ride or a hard ride. With 16 players though 1 will probally beat 16 then play 8 or 9 lets say pickwick as number 1 and has won all his matches. Sravan is # 8 and has only got ne third or fourth. So now 2 of the top players are playing eachother and only one is moving on when they both had ligadimen shots at getting money.
Team melee
Double elimantion. Only way to get around single elimination and 3 quals would just create a big ugly tie.
Single kART
Depending on turn out hopefully 3 maybe only 2 quals.
Then top 32 move on to a another 2 or 3. Since 3 each would give only 6 rounds.
Then top 16 move to top 4 move on. That would be only three rounds.
Same as single for team kart.
This might be hard to understand , but hopefully one person will read it and make ,e fell happy. Also since instead of making 10 little meaniless ones i make one big one filled with ideas. Since the tourney will still be 5 hours and there will be no sup-prize round that gives an extra 30- 45 minutes. Unless Eli chooses to do a clan event at the end.

Well, I'm sitting on a bed in a hotel on the way home. Somehow this room has an extremely good wireless port cause I got Max Bars (see, I gotta capitalise everything)
Also I'm using a Ibook G4 with Mozilla Firefox. Not some crappy AOL with a small BACK button or keyboard with a SMALL FREAKIN DELETE BUTTON!!!
Also since I have a good connection, I'm also playing DS Mario Kart online and I just beat a super n00b until the 4th match where he backed out at the last minute and I didn't get any win points. Doncha just hate it when that happens.

Thank you sravan. I basicially took the ideas now and added a couple rounds for the people in the top 32 which gives them more inherit bonus plus it lets the better people have a higher chance of moving on. I like the double eliminaton because even with seeding 2 really good people might face off early. If you haven't already please read my above post. the one problem with it is it will probally be too long especially if Eli wants to add a clan event at the end. BAck to the # of post thing when do you think post 10,000 will happen. I think in between round 2 and 3.
also i think the main focus should be on single player giving more time for those and less time for team. team mariokart should have the same elimnation process and t will go just as fast as melee.

Yes, I would also like to request information about the DVD. Especially since none of the tournaments were on TV this year, I have been feeling a severe lacking of AADL-GT-ness in my life. :-(
Also, in case any of you were wondering (I highly doubt it), I haven't been commenting that much because none of this is really going to affect me, since I'll be inelligible by the time next season comes around. So, I'll leave you younguns to your fun, and sit around waiting for the Adult tournaments. However, I will be back at least in a spectator standpoint if nothing else when the new season rolls around... heh heh heh...

Why is it all these people are saying Fransisco won? I two stocked him in the finals, although he is actually better than me. Aaron I also beat, but that was in quarter finals. CKX actually should have won the match I played against him because I suicided and then he suicided as he felt bad for me and I came back and won... I was gonna give him half of my 40 dollars, but I couldn't make it to free play and still have to pay him back.
Srevan, looking at your post way back there when you said you beat Ownerer at Aaron's... you have to play him again. He's a beast. You can't shield grab him because he pillars you or just shines your grab, you can't chainthrow him because he ASDIs you throws... The only reason I twostocked him is he choked.

I've played him three times now and lost every time. I thought, at the most recent tournament, that I might be able to take him, because I've improved dramatically since December, but it seems that he's gotten quite a bit better, too. I don't recall having been two-stocked in a one-on-one match before.

pickwick i consider you a very underated player. the match was hypothetical but, i believe when you play sravan you usally beat him. Also Eli what ideas are still up for debate about the planning meeting also if thier are tryouts for the commentating i would like to try out.

I finally finished my new computer. This is my first post from it.

I think that building a computer has taught me a thing or two about gaming trends. I was able to build my computer for a little more than a xbox 360. If everyone could buy a gaming computer for the price of a console I think console sales would dive.

console gaming is cheaper (I could never build a computer) and it is better multiplayer because you can just have one system and 4 controllers and u can go. Although lan parties might have betterr graphics not everyone has a labtop.
Also is anybodys clan a clan outside axis. I mean a real clan.

It is a lot easier to do multiplayer on consoles when you're in the same place as the people, but for doing any serious online gaming, I'd pick a PC any day over a console. Most of the games these days are out for at least one, possibly two of the consoles (poor Gamecube) and the PC, so it's not like there's a lack of choices. I suppose that there are some games where it's good to be in the same place as your opponents, and some that it's fine either way. Besides, most split-screens, at least for FPSs and stuff like that, are way too small when you have four people on one screen. The PC offers maximum screen space as well as maximum people to play against.

Console for FPS and RTS... And RPGs work just as well on it. Consoles for fighting games and also RPGs. Hmmm. Looks like PC wins, unless you're a fighting game maniac.
Anyway, we have to do another one of these tourneys some time... when's the actual AADL event?
Bad Driver, you don't need a laptop for a LAN party, and building a computer is actually very simple. It's sort of like legos with 100$ pieces.

Actually the parts you buy have instructions of how to assemble them, but if you want them to be colorful you have to pay extra.

I'm not in a very good mood right now.
Ok, remember when I told you guys about my computer being fried and it taking too long from coming back from the shop? Well, It can back yesterday and I JUST got the internet to work by installing it again. The strangest thing about it is the fact that the only saved data that was on there was anything I threw away and deleted in the past year.
To shorten that, I have many crap DDR songs and hundreds of non-working Starcraft Mods to rebuild my hardrive.
Luckly I have my JumpDrive Storage thing so I saved a few important things like my AADL Badge and SPARTAN's Badge (they are different sizes). Also I managed to save the original "The Reds" logo.
I'm also pissed because my roosterteeth profile is dead because I cant seem to get the password back, (the old password was being remembered by the computer).

I am currently relocationg to Ann Arbor Area and my 14 yr old daughter loves DDR, and para para paradise..would love any kind of clubs or meets or tournaments this summer so I can take her to some and start getting her making new friend's. Thank's

Ian, I'm wondering if I can get Nate (SPARTAN-014 soon-to-be: Onion of Ireland) on the VMC. I still wanna keep the Reds alive in a way. I have been coaching him and he's about my skill in SSBM now because he has been playing it a lot and I havn't. I wanna have like during teams the VMC and The Reds as team names. AND if we manage to have 6 people in a clan, we can also have out 3rd team name the Innoculated Nuns.
I'm just saying this because my clan doesn't fully get the concept of clans yet. They think I am leaving The Reds for another clan. They don't get that all the clans die but we just wanna keep the names and make new clans. So please, think about having Nate in our clan. He'd like it and I of course will.
Also, on the topic of Mario Kart. I managed to get my "The Reds" logo onto my DS Emblem, so if you find me on MarioKart DS online, you'll see it. It's cool. Try going HERE to make an emblem out of a favorite pic. Make sure you put in exactly what it says because even though it may look crappy, it will look very well done on a DS screen.
One more thing, I need someone to help me re-learn how to play Mario Kart DD!! The reason is, is that I got too used to the crappy physics of the DS version and it crapping up my playing in DD.
Also (not very important) I have more Kevin Quotes written down, they're just to great to pass up. Me and Kevin we're thinking about stealing the emergency difibrillator and playing with it. Then he suddenly yelled "Difibrillator Tag!!!" And we both cracked up like crazy. And if I hadn't said it already, he was the guy with the long hair who brought the NES into the AADL-GT dicussion thing.

Well he wasn't drunk, but he was deffinately drinking. It's possible that he was drunk.
I think he got two zero to deaths on me. Just shine comboed me across the map and stuff. He played really aggressive. I've learned more about keeping pressure on the opponent, now, which is really just what wins the game.
