AADL-GT Tournament Weekend: Brawl, DDR, Guitar Hero and More!

It's the opening weekend of the 2008 GT season, and it all kicks off with a BONUS Brawl open play this Friday from 11 AM - 6 PM at the Downtown Library! We've got 8 new Wiis and we need to get some serious unlocking done. We won't have any food, but please come on down and help us get as much unlocked as possible for the tournament. Then, Friday night sees our next Revolution Hero tournament for all ages: try to win the Guitar Hero 2 or DDR brackets, or go for the double crown. Saturday features the Smashkart championship series season opener for Grades 6-12 (sorry lain) kicking off at High Noon with Brawl Singles. Full details follow below, but Saturday will also include our first ever gtsystem exhibition match, where the winners of our Smash Singles will face off online against the best players that Detroit Public Library and Columbus Public Library have to offer! Then, opening weekend wraps up with a Rock Band tournament for All Ages Sunday from 1-4pm, and then the last Pokémondays of the summer on Monday from 1-5.

First, the Clan season does begin this Saturday, which means that you need to get your clans formed and registered. We'll be taking clan registrations during the friday festival of unlocking and during the tourney on saturday, but get your clans formed fast to get a head start on the competition.

Brawl Singles quals will be Pool style, seeded by ratings, with top 32 moving on. 3-stock, 5-minute matches; but for this first season of brawl we will not be implementing any bans on items or stages yet unless you have an ironclad reason. However, items will be set to low. Team Brawl will be quals and then tiebroken top 16 teams move on.

Kart will be Double Dash for now; Kart Wii discs are proving almost impossible to obtain. We'll do seeded 4-player, 4-race pools for singles and Lan mode qualifiers for teams, like last season.

Also, for Rock Band, don't forget that the winning band takes home $40 apeice... that's better than most gigs.

I understand not banning

I understand not banning items and what-not, in fact they're not nearly as bad as they were in Melee so go ahead and keep 'em on low, which is fine with me.

However, ALL STAGES?

If you want matches to end on stock (and not by time limit) like...ever you need to ban New Pork City and 75m. 75m also has a lot of really dumb hazards. Temple is still bad too.

The other stage I have a big problem with is the new Flatzone. Try playing it a few times. You'll get killed by the hazards constantly, and it gives a big advantage to certain characters with specific types of throws/chainthrows. For example, Pikachu can stand on the edge, and if he grabs someone do a back-throw and kill them at extremely low %.

Anyways, I'll be there, and I hope you take these stages off. All the rest aren't necessarily fair, but they're not awful like the one's I've mentioned.

Also, everyone with an unlocked Wii should bring it, because noone wants to play without all the characters. Just in case people don't manage to finish up on Friday (I doubt they will).

also harms remember we play sudden death so theres no point in hitting b4 running away...

I'll bring my wii, and my mkwii disc(lets not play gamecube now, thats jsust an insult ><) mostly bcause it has all 11 of my control setups... that would take so long otherwise...

Lain, you're welcome to come and tear it up during open play, commentate, or preside as an elder statesman, but round 0 back in july was the last chance for outgoing players to be in the tourney. We'll see how things go tomorrow to decide on stage bans; I am open to banning things like New Pork city, 75m, and flat zone for reasons mentioned above. See you guys tomorrow.
