Chasing Darkness is the newest novel by Robert Crais. Good writing, good plot and twists you don’t expect are the hallmarks of this book. The twists aren’t stupid or far-fetched either.
You will love the character of Elvis Cole. A former cop now a private detective in L.A, Elvis is tough, funny, compassionate, smart and semi-out-of-control. His sidekick is a guy named Pike that he served in Viet Nam with. Pike’s answering machine just says “Speak.” I tried this at home and an unidentified person I’m sure will never call again left a message saying it was the rudest thing she’d ever heard. Who needs her. You start saying hard-boiled stuff like that after you’ve read this book
This story involves crooked politicians, cops and lawyers with everyone trying to frame or kill each other. The plot moves along quickly and always keeps you guessing. Perfect for summer reading for mystery readers who want to drop the dime on somebody (or something like that).
