Dishing the dirt on “Derby Girl”

We’ll be hearing more about the making of the film “Whip It” by Drew Barrymore since some of the scenes will be shot in Washtenaw county. Juno’s Ellen Page is slated to star as Bliss, a blue haired, indie-rock loving misfit who escapes from her beauty pageant-addicted mother to the wacky world of roller derby.
Read an interview with screenwriter/author Shauna Cross as she tells how her first book, Derby Girl, was chosen to be turned into a movie. Shauna knows what she’s talking about; she’s a member of the Los Angeles Derby Dolls, skating under the moniker of Maggie Mayhem.

You're right, we'll be hearing more about Derby Girl and some of the 'brushes with fame' locals will have with screen stars coming to town to make this flick. For example, I heard [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_%28rapper%29#Early_life|Eve] is in the film and was dining downtown last week! (Although she's not listed in any info I've seen about [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1172233/|Whip It].)
