New booster seat law

by sherlonya

Effective July 1, 2008 is a new law that requires children between the ages of four and eight and less than 4 feet 9 inches tall to use booster seats. Current law requires children under four years of age to ride in an infant or child car seat. This booster seat law extends the requirement to older children who are also not optimally protected by seat belts alone.

As a primary enforcement law, the booster seat provision allows police officers to pull over a vehicle for violation of this law. Including fines and fees, this violation could cost a driver between $65 and $165 for each unrestrained child.
