Missing your neighborhood branch this June? Head over to UM’s Art, Architecture and Engineering Library in the Duderstadt Center on North Campus for a sneak peek at AADL’s new Traverwood Branch. Featuring photographs of the construction process and material samples from inside and outside the branch, the exhibit covers many fascinating aspects of the building’s design, such as the extensive incorporation of ash trees from the site. The exhibit is on display in the central atrium on the second floor of the Duderstadt Center, located just over a mile from the site of the new branch. Stop by and get ready for June 30!

Miss the return/drop box for the northeast side the most!!!!!!!

I worry about what will happen to the Plymouth Rd. mall, now that the library is gone. There was such a wonderful ecosystem of people and businesses there, and it has become a real center of activity for that part of town, especially for the Chinese/Asian community. It is kind of miraculous that a strip mall could provide community, but I think the library really helped in that respect. I will miss the Northeast library a great deal (they didn't even let us keep the name). It was particularly a blessing when my daughter was small, to be able to go there and to get other errands done as well. I fear that these new branch libraries have not considered the human ecology of things as well as they have the environmental ecology. Progress is not always positive. Bigger and newer is not always better.
