Charles Moseley Maynard was born in 1800. He married Sophronia Colton and had 6 children and passed away on 14 Jan 1852 in Pittsfield, Washtenaw, Michigan, USA. Sophronia Colton Maynard was born in Longmeadow, Hampden, Massachusetts, USA on 10 Jan 1809 to Henry Colton and Lydia Booth. She passed away on 9 Mar 1864 in Pittsfield, Washtenaw, Michigan, USA.

With his father, Ezra Maynard, Charles in 1824 became the first settler on the land now known as Cobblestone Farm, in Pittsfield Township. Charles became the sole owner of the farm in 1826, but sold it to Benajah Ticknor in 1835.

Mr. Maynard's diary, which covers the years 1847-1849, is divided into two parts: The first part crosses two pages and divides his observations into four parts: man's work, horse's work, weather, and remarks. The second part serves as a ledger.
