Celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

This “craftastical” adventure includes Seuss-y projects based on some of Dr. Seuss’ beloved books, including The Lorax.

Baby Playgroups

Monday March 2, 2015: 10:30 am to 11:30 am -- Downtown Library: Youth Story Corner

This event is intended for babies up to 24 months.

This is a time for babies up to 24 months and their grown-ups to gather and play. The Library will provide the space and a variety of toys.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs followed by open playtime. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

Join Clinical Psychologist Janette Ghedotte as she discusses the power of body language and how to create strategies to help establish rapport, decode body language messages and gain greater confidence in business and personal relationships.

Hinamatsuri Paper Craft

This event is intended for grades 3 - 8

Hinamatsuri – also known as Girl’s Day or Doll’s Day – is celebrated annually on March 3 in Japan. It’s a day to wish good health and happiness to young girls everywhere!

Learn about this special day, and make kokeshi-style and shiori ningyo-style dolls out of colorful paper and washi tape.

Kokeshi are wooden dolls of different shapes, and shiori ningyo are “bookmark dolls,”often made of washi.

The Dark Side II: Highway of Horror With Bestselling Horror Authors Andrew Pyper & Nick Cutter

Get ready for a spine-tingling evening when bestselling horror genre authors Andrew Pyper and Nick Cutter visit the Downtown Library for one night of chilling readings and conversation, as part of their Dark Side II: Highway of Horror author tour. There will also be plenty of time for questions and answers — if you dare! A book signing will follow, and books will be for sale.

Andrew Pyper is the award-winning author of six internationally bestselling novels, including The Killing Circle, a New York Times Best Crime Novel of the Year. Three of Pyper’s novels, including The Demonologist, are in active development for feature films. His new novel, The Damned, was released in February 2015 and has already been optioned as a feature film by Legendary Pictures.

Nick Cutter is a pseudonym for Scotiabank Giller prize-nominated author Craig Davidson. Davidson has published four books of literary fiction, including Rust and Bone (which was made into an Oscar-nominated feature film of the same name), and Cataract City. Under the name Nick Cutter, he published The Troop in 2014 and his newest book, The Deep, in January 2015.
