This event is intended for preschool

Join us for bilingual stories and songs in Spanish and English for preschool listeners, accompanied by an adult. Siblings and families are welcome! Participants do not need to understand Spanish to enjoy this event!

Playgroups

Thursday October 2, 2014: 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm -- Malletts Creek Branch: Program Room

This is a time for babies up to 24 months and their grown-ups to gather and play. The Library will provide the space and a variety of toys.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

No older siblings, please.

Emerging Writer's Workshop: What To Talk About When You Talk About Your Book

This event is intended for Teens in Grades 6-12 and Adults

How do you tell others about your book? Is there a way to sum up an entire book without getting bogged down in detail or leaving out the main point? In “What To Talk About When You Talk About Your Book,” authors Margaret Yang and Lara Zielin will cover the essential documents every writer needs: query letters, synopses, log lines and blurbs. Join us for this Emerging Writers Workshop, featuring perspectives from indie and traditional publishing.

College Night: Solving the College Admissions Puzzle

Thursday October 2, 2014: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: 4th Floor Meeting Room

This event is intended for grade 9 to adult.

This event is for you: AADL's 8th annual College Night with the co-authors of "Solving the College Admissions Puzzle: A Guide for Students and Families About College Selection, Essay Writing, and High-Stakes Testing." Learn how to reduce your stress and increase your chances for success from the three experts of collegeadmissionsadvisors.com.

Community High's college prep counselor John Boshoven, M.A., M.S.W. will help you understand how to find the college that fits; Essay Coaching founder Debbie Merion, M.S.W, M.F.A. explains how to write a winning college application essay, and Managing Your Mind principal Geri Markel Ph.D. will provide tips about how to score your highest on tests such as the ACT and SAT, all to be followed by Q and A. Books will be for sale.

This event was originally scheduled for the Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room and has been relocated to the 4th floor of the Downtown Library.

KinderConcert: Music & Motion

This event is intended for children 2 - 5 years.

Learn about the string bass from Erin Zurbuchen and about the piano from Kathryn Goodson, and listen, dance and hear a story with Gari Stein. Enjoy the music of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

This event will be repeated at 10:30 am. This event was originally scheduled for the Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room and has been relocated to the Youth Story Corner.
