Playgroups

Friday November 28, 2014: 10:30 am to 11:30 am -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

This is a time for babies up to 24 months and their grown-ups to gather and play. The Library will provide the space and a variety of toys.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

No older siblings, please.

Washtenaw Literacy's ESL groups focus on speaking and listening skills for adults in an informal, relaxed setting. TOEFL preparation is also available.

Learn To Play Mahjongg

Saturday December 6, 2014: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

Mahjongg is a Chinese game resembling Gin Rummy, but played with colorful tiles instead of cards. It is easy to learn and can become quite addictive.
Class will start with a brief lecture, followed by actual playing of the game, with continuous guidance from the instructor.

Stuart Baggaley has taught his modified and simplified version of the game to numerous groups at many different venues. He is a British World War 2 veteran (RAF) who emigrated from Norway in 1957, leaving his position with the Fulbright Foundation in Oslo. He retired from the U-M Medical School (Anatomy) in 1990.

NaNoWriMo: "I Wrote a Novel... Now What?"

Sunday December 7, 2014: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm -- Traverwood Branch: Program Room

This event is intended for grade 9 - adult.

Author and Michigan native Donald Lystra will offer tips and tricks on revising your written work and how to get published. This program is associated with Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) and all aspiring authors are welcome!

Lystra’s work's Season of Water and Ice and Something that Feels Like Truth have received the Michigan Notable Book Award and the Midwest Book Award. This event includes a book signing and books will be for sale.
