Music Expert Richard LeSueur Discusses Donizetti's Tragic Masterpiece - Lucia Di Lammermoor

Sunday June 13, 2010: 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm -- Downtown Library: aadlfreespace

Based on actual events and an 1819 novel by Sir Walter Scott, Lucia di Lammermoor tells the story of a fragile girl forced to marry a man she doesn't love. Lucia then takes matters into her own hands, but at a cost too great to bear.

Richard LeSueur, retired music specialist at the Ann Arbor District Library, will discuss the plot and music of this masterpiece. This is an opera with an abundance of well known arias and ensembles including the Tomb Scene, the Mad Scene and Sextet. Using recordings to illustrate the high points, LeSueur take you through this opera which makes today's TV crime shows look tame. This is an enjoyable way to prepare for the Arbor Opera Theater's performance of this famous opera, June 17 - 20 at Lydia Mendelssohn Theater.
