Film & Discussion: 'Fremont, USA: A City's Encounter With Religious Diversity' With Discussion Led By The Film's Co - Director/Producer Ellie Pierce, of Harvard's Pluralism Project
Thursday November 19, 2009: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room
Fremont, California is a city transformed by new immigration; the city has faced real challenges, especially after 9/11. When Alia Ansari, a Muslim woman, is murdered, some wonder if it was a hate crime: Was she killed because of her headscarf? How will the wider community respond? This award-winning film was part of Harvard's Pluralism Project, which set out to investigate more broadly the changing religious landscape of several American cities, and to consider the implications of this complex religious landscape for American public life. This event is co-sponsored by the UM Community Scholars Program and will feature a discussion led by Ellie Pierce, the film's Co-Director/Producer and research director for the Harvard Pluralism Project.
