Out Here: Paintings by Cathy Barry
Now through September 1, 2013 -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room Exhibit
This group of paintings explores views of land, space and the cosmos as seen from many types of references: aerial photography, cartography, astrophotography and images from the Hubble telescope. Cathy Barry's process involves splattering, sanding, scraping, rubbing, and layering. She uses templates to build up each layer, and drawing and watercolors to inform the oil paintings.
Cathy Barry received her Bachelors of Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design and her Masters of Fine Art from Eastern Michigan University (Painting and Drawing). She is an instructor of art at Washtenaw Community College and maintains a studio in Ann Arbor.
