Imagine Community Presents: Multi-Media Exhibit

Now through July 21, 2013 -- Downtown Library: Lower Level Display Cases

Since October 2011, Imagine Community has worked, through creativity and skill sharing, to promote friendship and cooperation between homed and homeless people. One of the organization's current main activities is facilitating weekly arts and crafts, music, and creative writing programs at the local homeless shelter, the Delonis Center. The artistic program brings out individual brilliance and talent and also encourages people to come out of isolation and join together in meaningful activities.

This exhibit showcases the artwork created by the participants of these programs and includes paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, woodwork, greeting cards, jewelry, knitting projects, bags, and decorated poems. One of the most prolific artists in the community is Liz Trusty. Her optimistic vision permeates the collection.

Imagine Community aims to increase the visibility of homeless people as creative, productive and resourceful individuals who, in spite of the hardships they are currently experiencing, have much to contribute to the Ann Arbor community as a whole. This art work is our collective effort to imagine a more just, understanding and beautiful world. The purpose of the exhibit is to inspire, empower, educate and strengthen communal ties.
