National Library Week Event: U.S. Citizenship: An Overview
Sunday April 14, 2013: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm -- Downtown Library: 4th Floor Meeting Room
Are you or someone in your family eligible for citizenship? What are you waiting for?
Join attorney Ruby Robinson from the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center as he presents an overview of the steps in becoming a U.S. citizen. There will also be several attorneys present at this event who will meet with any attendees who would like individual help with the citizenship process and who have brought appropriate documentation.
Did you know that, as a U.S. Citizen you can vote in the NEXT election; are much safer from deportation and may petition more family members? Your minor children who are legal residents will automatically become citizens and you can travel as long as you want outside the country (legal residents can't be out of the country for more than 6 months).
You are eligible to apply if you have been a legal resident for five years - or only three years if you are married to a U.S. citizen.
The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) is a resource center for advocates seeking equal justice for Michigan's immigrants. MIRC works to build a thriving Michigan where immigrant communities are fully integrated and respected.
