UMS Night School: 100 Years Of UMS At Hill Auditorium: Session 5: Global Beats in the Aisles
Monday January 28, 2013: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room
What was it like to be in Hill Auditorium in 1913? This season Night School focuses on 100 years of UMS at Hill Auditorium and illuminates the special history behind the great performers and performances that have shaped our community. Professor Mark Clague joins us again as host and resident scholar.
Over the years, UMS has turned Hill Auditorium into a global stage: a platform for cultural exchange, learning, and community pride. Session 5 explores UMS's history of global music performances at Hill Auditorium, including recent a performance by Mexico's Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and the upcoming one by Benin's Angelique Kidjo.
These 90-minute "classes" combine conversation, interactive exercises, and "lectures" with genre experts to draw you into the themes behind each performance. Sessions are designed to both deepen your knowledge of the performing arts and connect you with other audience members. This event is collaboration between UMS, Ann Arbor District Library and the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
